Hey guys! Ms. B wanted to say a special goodbye to her friends at South Ridge. She misses you all and wishes everyone the best.
One act of kindness can go a long way as seen in the video above. This week we learned to reach out to others by "starting with hello." We've also talked about being Kindness Monsters, encouraging others, and including others. As we end the month of September, let's remember to be caring and kind to others. You might just make a big difference with a small act.
Thank you for a great Start With Hello week! I hope you all enjoyed our theme days! I'm proud of you for reaching out to others and saying hello. To end out our week, we are going to read Strictly No Elephants. This book talks about important parts of friendship. What parts did you notice? What did you notice about the new club?
Start With Hello Week helps teach us ways to include others who are feeling alone. This week we will learn ways to reach out to others including the following steps:
1. See Someone Alone 2. Reach Out & Help 3. Start With Hello For more information go to the Sandy Hook Promise website: www.sandyhookpromise.org/event/start-with-hello_week/ Today's story shows us the importance of kindness and reaching out to include others. Let's think of ways we can reach out to other kids who might be alone. Next week begins our Start With Hello week and we will talk more about ways to reach out to others. Today's story is The Monster Who Lost His Mean. Notice how the monster feels at the end of the book. Why do you think he feels happy? Let's think of ways we can be "Kindness Monsters" at school and home. Draw or write some ways that you can be a "Kindness Monster." It can be scary to make your mark. This book shows us how with a bit of encouragement we can create our own masterpieces. After you read the book try making your own "mark" on a sheet of paper or print off the sheet below. Our IB theme of the month is caring so I challenge you to encourage someone else and give them courage to reach their goals! This week I'm going to read a book about feelings. As I read the book think about times when you have felt the feeling mentioned. How did your body feel? What were you doing? After listening to the book, there is a print out at the bottom to make your own Spot Feelings Coloring Book! **For more information about the artist and book go to: www.dianealber.com** Resources provided by www.dianealber.com To make your own Spot Feelings Coloring Book:

Don't forget, "Just Keep Swimming." :) Hey there! I am your new School Counselor, Mrs. Wade. I am so excited to work with the students and families at South Ridge Elementary. I'll be sharing a video with more about me and our counseling program here soon, but for now I wanted to give you a skill to practice called, Rainbow Breathing. This is a great way to take some deep breaths and reset. This can be a great tool to calm our bodies and minds down especially while we start the school year back! I look forward to working with all of you! -Mrs. Wade P.S. Check out the "Calm Down Corner" page for more activities to try! |
